    2:24 What a disgusting policy from the venue. Had I been your buddy, I would have told those mofos to shove their policy so far up their fart hole that the venue could have made OF content from it. "We're gonna change you extra if you don't use our vendors!?" Gross. But whatever, to each their own. Which funny enough, it's why I ALWAYS deliver B or even C level work when I work with other vendors because I NEVER want to be on anyone's preferred vendor list. One because I don't want to participate in the culture of "you can only use our vendors" and two, the chances of them booking the same type of client is slim. Of course, I make my best effort to deliver A level work to clients, but not with other vendors. Needless to say, I'm not much of a team player. Ain't even gonna lie.

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto 8 днів тому

      Yeah dude, from what JonCris is saying they included it so use them or not they were paying for it anyway. There was a venue in LA that told our couple that they charge a fee beyond that if they removed them so we had a talk with that team too. I'm not fighting anyone but if they're hiring us directly, we need to do our jobs And dude the fact that you recognize that about yourself is a very fair thing. Some people pretend to be a team player when they're really not, and you can see through it. I'd rather someone be direct like that so everyone is on the same page. We're preferred out of a few venues but not in the sense that we're included in the packages. They refer us and the couple chooses to go with us or not based on their preferences. And that I think is a solid preferred vendor list. Thank you for watching my dude

    • @thedrunkweddingphotographer
      @thedrunkweddingphotographer 7 днів тому

      @@TNKPhoto Man these venues with their pesky polices, like not letting me drink on the job. And don't get me wrong, I don't mind getting reffered, I just don't want to be a part of the "you must book our vendors or else!" culture. And you're right A LOT of people in our industry are fake to the max. But I'm the bad guy for not wanting to socialize with them. Speaking of which, I adopted the Korean way of doing things having worked with Koreans while in the fashion industry. Where you come in, do your job as efficiently as possible, no small talk but dead honest when you do speak. Which..... a lot of people take it very personal thus seeing me as not being a team player. So if I find out they're turn off by me from the get go, I make it worse ain't even gonna lie. And I already mentioned how I work best on an empty stomach, finding it awkward AF to sit down with the vendors to break bread. So I just don't do it. And get this, I was actually written up twice while working at Samys Camera for NOT socializing with my co-workers. Long story short, I didn't socialize with the fake ones who rated me out. 🐀

    This is a great topic. I know when I first started shooting weddings, they were mostly friend's and coworker's weddings. You are 100% correct, you have to handle it like a regular "client" wedding. Still have them sign a wedding agreement and all of the other documents that go along with it. Great video 👍

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto 8 днів тому

      Thank you John! Absolutely, you should definitely treat it like a client. If I'm that close to someone I don't make them sign an agreement or anything like that. In the case of JonCris here, he's one of our photographers as well so he knows how we work and operate. But it's case by case. There are some friends who I still do the whole contract, invoice, deposit, etc as well. Thank you for watching John!

    If you're overheating at 1/32 or so, then there is something wrong with that particular unit. I shoot architectural interiors and homes, the AD100 has been a great replacement for the Zoom speedlights with more power, reliability and better quality light. Outdoors for what you do, probably not enough power to battle the bright sun. I have 4 of the AD100s and usually takes 2~4 to shoot an average home placing them in different areas of a space or darker adjacent rooms, I pop them 1/2 to full power sometimes to the point that the fan starts after a while, but takes quite a few pops to activate the fan, though they still keep popping. One note, the early versions have a magenta tint Fresnel and the later AD100s have been corrected with the updated Fresnel, Adorama was good to send me the correct tints to update my older versions. The AD200 is an awesome strobe as well, the size and weight of the AD100 makes them appealing for ease of transportation for me. So far nearing two years and they keep popping on a nearly daily basis. For the darker or larger spaces, the AD200s and AD300s come in quite handy.

    @jovis3084 14 днів тому

    Nice video, good tips to wait for after sunsets to show the interior lighting. I just was left wondering when you gel the flash. How long do you normally have planned for such a shoot? 1-2 Hours?

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto 14 днів тому

      Thank you so much for watching! Typically we shoot for about an hour to an hour and a half. After that timeframe people start to get tired and I personally believe that you should be able to get a ton of great photos in that timeframe. Unless you have multiple locations that require driving from one to another, you don’t want to have so much time with the sun high in the sky so by scheduling it an hour before sunset you get more of the varied lighting conditions. We typically gel the flash when we want to neutralize the tungsten lighting or if we want that blue look. In the second situation, you put a CTO on your flash and you bring your white balance down to around 3200 Kelvin and you should get the surrounding to be blue and the couple to be color corrected. It sounds complicated but it’s fairly simple the more you practice

    • @jovis3084
      @jovis3084 14 днів тому

      @@TNKPhoto Awesome! Thanks for the insights and the great answer :) Now I understood when you want to use a gel on location. And thanks for confirming the timeframe. Thats what i usually take as well, hour before Sunset and a bit of blue hour. Cheers, I am hyped for the next video :)

    Hi! How often your CTO gel is set? Almost everytime? I am Sony shooter a6600.

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto 14 днів тому

      Hey thank you for watching. Actually, no, I would say that most of the time we don’t use a gel. We only use it when we want to either neutralize the tungsten lighting and make everything look white (bringing your white balance to tungsten/3200k), or if we want to make the surrounding cooler and our subject to be color corrected by hitting them with a flash with a gel and bringing our white balance down to around 3200 Kelvin around dusk. Middle of the day it won’t work cause the ambient light is too bright

    Extremely helpful video! I like to do both photo and video and I've been looking for a f/2.8 zoom lens as I want to get into doing professional events. The Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 is tempting but expensive and you made some great points about the weight and likely not needing the longer end as much for video work. The Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 s is also a bit too pricy for me at the moment. It just seems like this lens was made for somebody like me and you saved me $1,000+ dollars. Thank you!

    Sadly I just bought two AD100s on Amazon Prime Day. Well... I will give them a run and see if they work for my needs. May flip them for the AD200s which many have raved about.

      Don't take anyone's word as gospel my friend. Myself included. Try it out, see how you like it and form your own opinion based on your workflow. For me and for weddings I personally dont think it's the best but there are plenty of people who love the 100 units. Let me know how you like them after a few uses. Keep in mind you can always return on Amazon and get the 200s if you change your mind

    I have a feeling you got a lemon. You should check out Wes Perry’s torture test of the AD 100 Pro. Even with HSS on.. it fired for almost 6 mins continuously at 1/2 power. Horses for courses.. i feel where the AD100 excels is the size and form factor.. and it is way more powerful than the V1 which i guess is around 70ws.

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto 24 дні тому

      I'll check that video out. Thank you! In the end I think the size benefit (vs the ad200) isn't worth it to me considering the price. If the AD100 is 100Ws but it costs the same as an AD200 with half the power, to me, it just makes logical sense to get the more powerful unit since the size is negligible (again, for my/our workflow). I actually tested out the Neewer system today so I'll be posting a video on those flashes soon too to compare. Thank you for watching!

      @@TNKPhoto Agree to an extent.. but i think in my camera bag.. i am able to carry 2 AD100's really easily, and it is lighter too. Having said that, any day the AD200 is the best light that Godox made.. cannot get more versatile than the AD200. On the AD200 and the AD100s.. do watch the videos of Markuspix.. very interesting ones. One reason i find the AD100 value for money is because i managed to pick it up for an equivalent of less than 200$ when it was on a sale :). Will look forward to the Neewer video.

    ‘Environmental portraits” - Spot on! This will be my next lens purchase, replacing my Tamron 17-28. Plenty wide enough for the occasional tradeshow booth shots, but mainly as an almost ideal reception/dance floor lens. On the dance floor, the 17-28 is wider than I need, and I often want to zoom in a bit tighter as well. Recently, I have been juggling the 17-28 and a 35 prime. This lens will eliminate that disruption in my coverage. I will be able to work with just one camera on the dance floor, which is a big help in very crowded conditions. Glad to hear it has been working well for you in this kind of use. Your review, along with Dustin Abbott’s, has convinced me this is going to be a great lens for my event work. I will ditch the 17-28 and hang onto my 14 and 18 primes just in case. FWIW, I enjoy your low-key presentation style and practical thinking.

      @TNKPhoto Місяць тому

      Thank you so much! I truly appreciate you watching and commenting 🙏 I would have to say, however, I might suggest keeping the 17 to 28. I actually just got that one in the mail from Tamron to test out (taking it on todays wedding) but generally speaking I prefer a nice wide angle just in case I need that width during dance floor photos if someone does something ridiculous close to the camera or for our wide environmental portraits. However I’ll compare weight too cause that’s a big factor that I like about the 20-40. On the 17-28 also, I do have my camera set so I just hit one button and it’ll go into crop mode if I need a little extra reach which works well if you don’t want that distortion. Even on my camera at 24mp it’s cropped to 11ish which is plenty (no one is making posters out of a dance floor photo lol). I wanted to respond to point out some of those things before you jump ship or you see me post the video next week and go “man I listened to Elmer and got the 20-40 and now he’s raving about the 17-28” 😂

      @@TNKPhoto Thanks. No worries. I have the 17-28 and know its strengths and weaknesses and often use Crop Mode with it on my a7RV. I rarely need wider than 20, and I have the UWA primes in case that happens, e.g. for venue shots. I just feel like the 20-40 will fit dance floor use better and also make a better walkabout combo with the Tamron 50-300 I plan to get to replace my Tamron 70-300. It's also a better FL range for large group portraits.

    I agree with the initial turn on delay. Every photographer turns the trigger on and off to expose ambient light. Its literally the first step when learning off camera flash. It's literally worse for real estate photography when you HAVE to turn on and off for ambient shots and flash shots back to back. The fact that Godox and flashpoint missed this shows they are detached from how a photographer works a flash system.

    • @TNKPhoto
      @TNKPhoto Місяць тому

      Yeah, I mean we have the workaround where I set one of the buttons as exposure preview so I can work around it like that. But I feel like it is very short sighted to have that delay. I understand that it has to boot up because it’s a screen as opposed to how it used to be, but I would rather take an old school screen with no delay over this. I ended up returning it after this review
